Become a Member of our Heritage Club
Together, we can build stronger, more inclusive communities, provide support for families and promote positive change overall. You can impact generations to come by becoming a member of the Heritage Club.
Since the Young Men's Christian Association of the Suncoast, Inc. (DBA YMCA of the Suncoast) was founded in our community in 1957 thousands of our neighbors and friends have personally benefited from the Y's commitment to strengthening community.
The YMCA Board of Directors has created an endowment fund and Heritage Club honoring those who have made a commitment to provide for the future of our YMCA through their estate plans.
Heritage Club Members, by their current or planned gift, ensure that the values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility endure and that Y programs will positively impact our community for generations to come.

Stories from Heritage Club Members
Kim Briggs, YMCA Chief Volunteer Officer (2023) grew up in a military family and moved around to different parts of the country frequently. The military bases they lived on had their own facilities for health and wellness, so she doesn't have the typical "learned to swim" or "played basketball" Y-story. Her husband, Dennis, grew up in Memphis, Tennessee, and did not have an early age Y experience either. Their Y experience began much later in life. With busy careers and social lives but commitments to staying healthy, Kim and Dennis joined their local YMCA branch for cardio and weight workouts. "We decided on the YMCA because of the welcoming environment and because it didn't feel like your typical gym." Instead, it was a place where people with like interests could belong in community. "Dennis and I would typically go for our cardio workouts several mornings a week and weight workouts two nights a week. Every time we entered the Y, we were most impressed with all of the activities going on - there was something for every age, ability and interest," she adds.
At some point along the way, Kim mentioned her pleasure in attending the YMCA to a friend who happened to be on the YMCA of the Suncoast Board of Directors at the time. He introduced her to the Board, and soon she was accepted as a new volunteer member, and she has been involved ever since. Over the years, she has served on the Finance Committee, Mayor's Prayer Breakfast Committee, Endowment Committee, Philanthropy Committee as well as various ad-hoc roles. Kim says, "Through my involvement on the Board, Dennis has also become passionately involved with supporting the mission of the YMCA. Truth be told, he was the one who was the first to suggest that we update our estate plan to include the YMCA of the Suncoast in our end-of-life wishes."
"We are most excited to be involved with the Y because of their commitment to making our community a better place. If there is a need to fill, a project to get done or a population to serve, the YMCA is willing to look into it and consider what they can do to be a part of the solution. We enjoy supporting the Y because it is an organization doing so much for so many; and they do it by honoring their mission 'to put Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.'"
Kim and Dennis also use Y facilities when they travel. They like knowing that they have a "home" even when they are away. "When I was recently out of town visiting Omaha, Nebraska, one of the front desk staff recognized me from six months earlier remembering that I am from Florida. It was a nice personal touch," recalls Kim. "The YMCA has made an impact on our lives in many ways. By being involved on the Board and on various committees, I feel like I am making a difference in the community. There are so many social and community challenges, and we typically only hear about the bad things that are going on - but by being involved in the YMCA of the Suncoast, it is refreshing and rewarding to see all of the good that is happening through their programming and community endeavors," she adds.
Frank and Toni Kenny have called Citrus County their home since the 1970’s. For over 30 years, Frank has either volunteered with or worked for the Sheriff’s Youth Ranch. His deep passion for helping young people also drove him to support the YMCA in Citrus County.
Frank shares, “The YMCA is a great place for kids to go to make friends, learn healthy habits, and stay out of trouble. Young people need guidance and they need to know that someone cares. The Y offers so many after-school programs and camps for kids to participate in with people who really care about them.”
Toni added, “I love that the Y includes the entire family by offering a multitude of services that support healthy lifestyles. The Y is all-inclusive – with a diversity of programs for people from all walks of life – children, young people, parents, seniors, and people with disabilities – the Y has something for everyone and all feel welcome and supported in their fitness goals.”
Frank and Toni have been long-time supporters of the YMCA Annual Giving Campaign which helps to support the Y’s ability to provide financial assistance and needed programs in the community. Recently, they decided to become Heritage Club members and provide support to the Y through a gift in their estate plan.
“It was important for us to ensure that our gift goes on to continue to support the children and families in our community who need it most. Citrus County has definitely benefitted from the YMCA and it is our hope that it will continue to grow and offer programs to support healthy lifestyles for people of all ages,” said Frank.
Frequently Asked Questions Related to Our Heritage Club
Anyone who provides a letter of intent, indicating that the YMCA of the Suncoast is a beneficiary of their estate plan, or creates a planned gift as a result of their estate planning can be a member.
We know that members of the Heritage Club choose to give to perpetuate their values and that their gifts say something about who they are and how they want to be remembered. Therefore, options are available to meet individual circumstances. The majority of gifts are received in these forms:
- Planned gifts including:
- Bequests through wills
- Naming the Y as a beneficiary of retirement plans
- Naming the Y as a beneficiary of insurance policies
- Living trusts
- Charitable trusts
Many donors choose to leave their gift unrestricted to allow the Y governing board to direct the earnings where the need is greatest. However, the YMCA of the Suncoast has specific options to which you can designate your funds:
- Undesignated for highest needs at the time
- For use at a specific branch
- For facility improvements
- For high-priority programs identified by the board of directors
Here is an example of wording you could use:
"I give to Young Men's Christian Association of the Suncoast, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation, incorporated in Florida the sum of $______ (or ______ percent of the remainder of my estate) to be deposited in the YMCA's endowment fund. The income shall be used to benefit said YMCA in such manner as the board of directors thereof may direct."
